Streamed Reading: Trustus Playwrights’ Festival Winner Down In The Holler

Trustus Theatre has named Down In The Holler by Val Dunn the winner of the 2020 Trustus Playwrights’ Festival, an annual national playwrighting competition founded by the theater in 1988. This story introduces Juniper and her wonderful partner Blake as they prepare for a perfect getaway at their cabin in the Shenandoah Valley. That perfection is quickly tested when Juniper’s ex arrives unannounced. As Juniper attempts to exorcise her pursuit of passion and maintain the stable life she’s created with Blake, Down In The Holler witnesses a collision of class and queerness, ultimately asking how we reconcile who we were and who we thought we would become. A reading of the winning script will be live-streamed September 26th at 2 p.m. at trustus.org.
